For this task I will present the Life of a transpoted convict to the colony of New South Wales, later known as Australia.
It was the book "Remember Me" by Lesley Pearse that inspired me to choose this topic. A book based on the true story of a young woman, Mary Bryant, a convict on the first fleet to New South Wales, who later escaped.
Intrigued by her story I felt an urge to learn more about these convicts, who were, literally, sent to the other side of the world to populate a new colony. So who were these people, and what did they do to deserve deportation? And what were the conditions for these convicts before, during and after their transportation...?
Note that my focus will be solely on the convicts, and not the actual colony or the indigenous people.
