The fleets and their routes. HERE you can find a list of all the ships used to transport convicts and the route in which they took to get from England and down to New South Wales.
Parramatta Female Factory was the first female factory and opened in 1796. It was used to house women convicts until 1847, when it was used as a mental asylum. To learn more about it's history klick HERE.
What happened to the indigenous people? As long as the indigenous people, better knows as the Aboriginals, and the settlers stayed out each others way there were no conflicts. Though eventually tension started to grow and problems appeared. To read more on this click HERE.
Floating prisons was particularly popular in England and were decommissioned ships known as prison hulks. Click HERE to find a list of the prison hulks that have been used.
Norfolk Island were one of few penal colonies that were meant for hardened criminals. It is said that Norfolk Island was like a Hell on Earth, and "a place of the extremist punishment, short of death". Click HERE to read more about this colony and its history.
